The Digital Age and the Debutante’s Party

By  |

Debut parties are traditionally formal affairs with the debutante in her best gown and her guests in their Sundays best, at least, while the activities are characterized by grace, symbolism, and tradition. But in the digital age, certain changes must be made to accommodate the changing preferences of debutantes. Here are a few ideas that will get the ball rolling for the debutante in the digital age.

Choose Social Media-Worthy Food and Drinks

Both young and old alike, especially the young people, like to take photos of their food and drinks for uploading to social media sites, such as Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram. Your choices for the menu should then include a wide range of food and drinks with a beautiful and colorful appearance, aside from the given of being delicious to eat.

You don’t even have to ask the caterer for traditional food that takes plenty of time, energy and money to prepare for this purpose. You can have your daughter’s debut catered by a restaurant chain, such as California Pizza Kitchen, since their food including pizzas in various flavors are as social media-worthy as they come.

Create an Event Page

Instead of sending formal invitations, you may want to create an event page instead. You can invite guests via the event page, post updates including photos on it, and allow family and friends to post their thoughts and send messages, too. This is most suitable for a more casual debut party, however, since formal invitations will be out of place, not to mention mean additional expense.

You may still want to send out formal invitations, nonetheless, in case of a formal debut party. The event page will supplement the invitations aside from the abovementioned purposes.

Tip: Use a hashtag, such as #jeandebut, to tie up the event page with the posts of its likers on their own pages, whether it’s on Facebook or Twitter.
Tip: Use many of the posts including the texts and images on the events page during the slideshow presentation. You will be surprised at the number of photos from the debutante’s younger years that family and friends will post on the event page, which can then be used for the throwback slide show. You can use the photos, for example, as part of the 18 selfies and 18 Instagrams segment – a great idea to add to the traditional 18 roses and 18 treasures part.
