History
Krispy Kreme opened its doors to the public in 1937. Its founder, Vernon Rudolph, purchased a secret yeast-raised doughnut recipe from French chef in New Orleans, and rented an old building in the historic Old Salem spot in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. From there, he started selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts to local grocery shops. In 2015, there are more than 1,000 stores worldwide, with the 1,000th store established in Kansas City, Kansas.
