History

Dr. Don Newcomb founded McAlister’s in Oxford, Mississippi in 1989 with the first restaurant located in a renovated gas station; many of its architectural details, such as the black-and-white tile and garage door are still being used in many of its present locations. Today, the chain boasts of more than 300 locations in Virginia, Florida, and Arizona, among other 24 states across the country.

The McAlister’s Deli Corporation, a privately held-company, has its headquarters in Ridgeland, Mississippi and Alpharetta, Georgia. Most of the chain’s restaurants are owned and operated by independent licensed franchisees from large corporations (e.g., JME, Inc.) with several locations to family-owned operations each with a single location.
