The story of Kona Ice started in Northern Kentucky in 2007 when the owner and CEO Tony Lamb realized out of the blue that selling shaved ice off of a truck can be fun and inviting, something people should not creep out on. And that is how Kona Ice was conceptualized. The company was coined as one of the fastest growing franchises in North America.

Apparently, Kona Ice is popular for their shaved ice shop concept where customers can customize their shaved ice using a Flavorwave, a flavor dispenser that is attached to the mobile truck. Its shaved ice snow cones contain 60 percent less sugar than a regular sugar water snow cone.
