History
LYFE Kitchen was formed in Palo Alto, California in August, 2011 by a group of McDonald’s top management individuals: Mike Roberts, former global president of McDonald’s, Mike Donahue, former chief of corporate communications of McDonald’s, and Stephen Sidwell, business partner of Roberts. They intentionally chose Palo Alto to open their first location because of the innovative spirit of the locals and because of the history of early settlement in the place where they can get fresh local produce, organic, hormone-free, and antibiotic-free ingredients. Its first franchise location opened in Chicago in 2013.
What They’re Famous For
LYFE Kitchen offers a variety of salads, sandwiches, soups, meat and fish entrees, breakfast menu, specialty drinks and desserts. All the foods they serve are below 600 calories and 1000 mg of sodium. Their food preparation also follows the LYFE Kitchen standards including microwave-free kitchen, no use of butter, cream and high-fructose corn syrup in their cooking, and monosodium-glutamate and bioengineered organism-free ingredients. The most popular dishes of the restaurant include “Unfried Chicken” with brussel sprouts and “Grain Bowl” with stir-fried vegetables, and beefless tips served with quinoa.
