History

Alvin A. McCall opened the first Ryan’s Buffet in 1977. Over the years, the single location grew in strength, so to speak, while the number of locations also increased. By November 2006, Buffets, Inc. purchased the chain and it became part of a family of several national buffet restaurants chains including Old Country Buffet and HomeTown Buffet.

Buffet, Inc., the parent company, is now known as Ovation Brands, Inc. with its headquarters in San Antonio, Texas. Ryan’s Buffet is also notable because of the accolades it has received, such as the Top Family Steakhouse in America for more than a decade.
